Tulips are widely believed to be of dutch origine, but in fact they aren't.Their origin is ottoman. The seeds of tulips were sent to the Netherlands by Dutch traders living in the Ottoman Empire, shortly after a large number of intellectuals living in Saray, left the Ottoman Empire for the Netherlands and Italy and started the movement called "Humanisma" which was the firststep towards renaissance. That's why it is believed they are of Dutch origine.
Anyway, last year the Istanbul municipality announced a project of planting 3 million tulips all over Istanbul. It was like to show to the whole world the true origin of tulips.
I like the plentitude of projects, the municipality organises to enliven the tourism in here. They do claim their own history and know how to showcase it.
I wish we could do this better in Albania, because we have amazing scenery and a lot of great historic places and things as well :(
However, the city was really beautiful last year, you could see tulips ofall colors everywhere. It was such a great and rare experience. I particularly loved the black tulips, they're amazing. Looked surreal...I wish they'll do it again this year!
