A rare pearl : "Grammar of Ornament"

Yesterday , I had the chance to visit "Design Cities" , an exhibition where are shown different objects, photos and description about the cities where first changes of modernism, change and revolution of design were seen.
This exhibition is held in Istanbul Modern Museum of Arts. Please click to the museum's site to learn more about this exhibition.
For more infos and photos please visit the museum site as it was forbidden for us to take photos:(

But what I mainly want to talk in this post ; is this brilliant book, I had the chance to learn yesterday while visiting the exhibition.
It's a book named "Grammar or Ornament" .This book , has the importance of a bible in ornament culture and was writen aiming to serve as an encyclopedia for the design and ornament.
Owen Jones (1809-1874) is the writer of this superb work.
Owen Jones was a architect and ornamental interior designer .His interior design work were very well known and famous through all the high society families of time. He also was instrumental in the application of chromolithography to book ilustration. In his early world travels , he was so much affected by the Eastern designs ,that he used these ones by reproducing them in his books. These patterns also influenced the English caperts, wallpaper and furniture's style.
This very special book of his , is a masterpiece of the 19th century , with a very special presentation of ornamental motifs from the ancient world ,up to the Renaissance era.Different motifs of different countries of the world are found here (e.g.ornaments of savage tribes ,chinese, hindu, italian, persian, egyptian, assyrian, greek, roman, byzantine, arabian, moresque etc etc). Also general principles of the arrangement of form and colour,in architecture and decorative arts may be found in this book.
What makes it a creation provocative book is making possible the creation of new designs and ornaments,by following the principles of the other 37 propositions.
As it is told , the design theory of the Grammar of Ornament , is modern, scientific, follower of known patters ,free of deliberated historicism , operating by specific principles to create an ornament for every kind of decoration.

I think that this is a great book, that everyone (not just the ones related to this sector )
would enjoy.
But , I still haven't told you the best part of it:)
You may find the total of this book for free (with all the patterns included ) : here
Isn' t so cool? I'm so happy to have run accross;)

By the way, Illuminated books is a lovely site with different illuminated books, all for free..So enjoy!

Tips for geting you out of boredom...

We've just passed the winter period. In fact we didn't have winter at all this year , but anyway for me it's winter all of the time the days are short.
So I felt really released and happier on 25th of March , the day the clock was changed.
In fact this has its own risks , you may disperse thinking all the time that you've got plenty of time since the days are longer!
Anyway , what I like more of this part of the year is that , is the time that makes me do some life refreshments and changes.
Now , don't think of any big issue, just some changes:)
I realised recently my life has been a bit dull and boring, I have been boring myself. Is it because of the season that we change and become like mushrooms?Yeah mushrooms , such dormant and inactive just like them..
But the new coming spring atmosphere has ignited my socialized and creative part and I'm irradiating it everywhere:)
I've got plenty of it so I'd like to share:)

1.Get some pure fresh air.Have some long walks. (p.s: I didn't do this for a long time eventhough I have a park 5' away from my house.Shame on me , I know , but for a long time , I wasn't feeling like doing anything).
2.Have a traditional picnic , if possible in the forrest(not brunch, brunch is better in cold weather). And if you want to enjoy it really , prepare everything at home (crepes, veggies, fruits, will make your picnic look more nostalgic and smell really like"family").Don't you all miss the picnics we had with our families? All what I think while remembering those sweet memories is Pink Floyd's song "high hopes" (the grass was greener....etc)..
3.Changhe or refresh your wardrobe.Get some fresh , casual , trendy clothes , for they will make you feel much better and will also force you to lose those extra pounds or extra belly layers:) I did it and I felt great..It was a long time I wanted to do a change , but each time I postponed it.I admit I'm very annoyable at shopping, not because I don't like it , but because I get bored to search a lot 'bout what I'd like to buy.I hate to be for a long time in a typical-girlish- garment- bickering- mess.So almost each time I buy the dress that I love at first sight. When I see it I must think "this must be mine"..I was lucky this time , I found some cutties (look at the green dress in the photo).
4.Start a new course. Now's the best time to do this , as you've got the top energy and the freshest brain. You could meet some cool people too.I find the courses really amusing.
5.Some mental and physichal detox would be great:)
Have a great spring time guys!

The brandnew "Nene Tereza" Airport- The new door to Albania

When I went on 18th of March to Albania , we passed from the old airport , but while living on 25th of March , I got the chance to see the brand new airport "Nene Tereza" which was really as I was told .I loved the architecture of it really cool and minimal.Very coherent too.
And the interior design was cool as well.Loved the cafés , boutiques too.Everything was done with style and you could feel the comfort and cozyness everywhere, but you could feel the warm albanian hospitality atmosphere still:)
And yes , the machiattos at cafe rock :)
Here there are some photos for you...

According to Bizele's request , here's my bag (the bag I'm using today) and its content:

3.Lipstick
4.Lip moisturizer
5.Mascara
6.Eye liner
7.Hand moisturizer cream
8.My keys
9.My wallet (with some important photos in it)
10.My gloves (mommy did them for me a long time ago, I love them)
11.Some old cinema ticket (I like to collect them especially when they've got some cool pictures or memories)
12.Brochures of different monthly cultural activities in Istanbul.
13.The book I'm reading now (the name is : Spirit , an archeology ;- different thoughts and essays from Socrates to Ray Charles. This is a cool one and I'm really having fun with it).
14.Of course the last but not the least my digital camera and its cable:)
That's my today's bag content.I like to carry big bags , as I like to carry everything that I might need when I'm away from home .If I had to remove anything from my bag I'd remove the make up things and my mobile, nothing else:)

My Ikea experience :()

If you're clumsy in technical matters you shouln't pretend a lot from the product offered in the market. This weekend I visited Ikea. It's a long time I wanted to do this , but always postponed it ,as it's far away (on the asiatic part of Istanbul).
However , finally last sunday I realised this:)I like it a lot..I like their style. It reminds you of those good old days. The style just reminds you of the past , maybe because of their furniture patterns. All what it comes voluntarily to your brain while watching them is a sunny , cozy ,warm house. They are minimal , but very traditional too, that's what makes them so different. And they're multifunctional as well.
Their only disadvantage is their home-fixation.In fact that's not a big problem for many people , but not for me , a technic disaster:)Ok maybe I exaggerated a bit , I can do it if I try but ,however I don't feel like. For that reason I had to satisfy myself with just some non technical :)lol products ( some cactuses, metalic small vases , t-light candles and a pillow)...
These were the best things offered to technic haters:)

antique shops

I love antique shops...I love the atmosphere that surrounds them..everything is so nostalgic and poetic in there.the colors , the odor , the corners , the objects ; everything just screams history !

Every object has it's own story , it's own experience in this world ...An antique shop is the best place to see all of this great objects of different epochs altogether...It's really great..You feel you are passing in a historic corridory !

There are people who hate this kind of places..They find them very dull , but I love them.Maybe I wouldn't prefer to have a house full of antique objects , but the idea of seeing them altogether thrills me..

Here there are 2 photos from an antique shop in Istanbul ,Turkey...
