Chronicle of a foretold soul failure

Have you ever watched it?

Don`t worry it  doesn`t necessarily start tragically,
YET!
silently,not perplexingly
dissolves your aura ,
gnaws your senses
making you a paralyzed spectator
of your unavoidable misery.

Have you ever ?

Ebru-like reflections

Ebru or "abroo" (which means the water face) is the name given to the turkic art of paper marbling .Classic ebru is performed using aqueous natural pigments mixed with oax-gall and a rectangular trough filled with a mucilaginous mixture traditionally prepared using gum tragacanth.
Colors are sprinkled using brushes made of rose stalks and horsehair on the surface of the mucilaginous solution in trough. The floatting pattern is taken off to paper either as it is of after being reshaped and retouched using pins, needles ,combs or things alike.
Ebrus were once admired as calligraphy media,as borders for inscriptions or as endpapers for fine bindings.
The earliest sample of ebru is reconized to be "Anfi!s book " of Guy-i Çevgan .This one is dated to be done in 1539 and can now be found at Topkapi Palace Museum in Istanbul,Turkey.(info from : www.ebrusanati.com).

What is told about Ebru is that is the art of patience. It helps you to win a creative eye and to express your feelings and ideas very delicately over water. It is a very sensitive form of art.And because is applied over water is very hard and very relaxing at the same time.
I so very much enjoy all of ebru works and that's the reason I was so suprised and marvelled to catch this picture in Cappadocia. An amazing ebru-like reflection of the rocks of Ihlara Valley has admirably taken some brilliant floating shapes and nuances ,so that I couldn't help thinking this looked so much like Ebru...Nature is a generous artist;)

A rare pearl : "Grammar of Ornament"

Yesterday , I had the chance to visit "Design Cities" , an exhibition where are shown different objects, photos and description about the cities where first changes of modernism, change and revolution of design were seen.
This exhibition is held in Istanbul Modern Museum of Arts. Please click to the museum's site to learn more about this exhibition.
For more infos and photos please visit the museum site as it was forbidden for us to take photos:(

But what I mainly want to talk in this post ; is this brilliant book, I had the chance to learn yesterday while visiting the exhibition.
It's a book named "Grammar or Ornament" .This book , has the importance of a bible in ornament culture and was writen aiming to serve as an encyclopedia for the design and ornament.
Owen Jones (1809-1874) is the writer of this superb work.
Owen Jones was a architect and ornamental interior designer .His interior design work were very well known and famous through all the high society families of time. He also was instrumental in the application of chromolithography to book ilustration. In his early world travels , he was so much affected by the Eastern designs ,that he used these ones by reproducing them in his books. These patterns also influenced the English caperts, wallpaper and furniture's style.
This very special book of his , is a masterpiece of the 19th century , with a very special presentation of ornamental motifs from the ancient world ,up to the Renaissance era.Different motifs of different countries of the world are found here (e.g.ornaments of savage tribes ,chinese, hindu, italian, persian, egyptian, assyrian, greek, roman, byzantine, arabian, moresque etc etc). Also general principles of the arrangement of form and colour,in architecture and decorative arts may be found in this book.
What makes it a creation provocative book is making possible the creation of new designs and ornaments,by following the principles of the other 37 propositions.
As it is told , the design theory of the Grammar of Ornament , is modern, scientific, follower of known patters ,free of deliberated historicism , operating by specific principles to create an ornament for every kind of decoration.

I think that this is a great book, that everyone (not just the ones related to this sector )
would enjoy.
But , I still haven't told you the best part of it:)
You may find the total of this book for free (with all the patterns included ) : here
Isn' t so cool? I'm so happy to have run accross;)

By the way, Illuminated books is a lovely site with different illuminated books, all for free..So enjoy!

Nostalgia!

I ran accross this lovely window in one of our safari's.It was during our safari in Heybeli Island.
The island is very well known with its warm atmosphere. Is also known as the island of writers as many of them have their residences here.

Old buildings, a tiny lovely church , some old style shops, people riding their bikes , smiling coachers on their glamorous phaetons, cute delicatessen shops and lots of other great details like these.
But what striked my attention was this genuine window. Those plastic flowers killed me..Such a naive decoration feeling! And those pots, so regularly positioned pots , ain't them unbelieveable?I can imagine the jam , I can smell the mommy odor , the wellbeing from 1 km apart!I remember of the sunny sundays, long family breakfasts, picnics, our playground, the gossip addicted neighbour and I'm grabbed in an intense nostalgia effect.
Miss those days, with all their naivite!

Me postë: Association Albania - 34, rue de Toul 75012 Paris
