ALCHEMY OF DESERTION

  • Do you always throw your test stripes?
I used to ,  in the beginning , until i started to fall for how surprisingly marvelous they`d look because of different affecting factors.
So i decided to collect my test stripes from some of my silver gelatin and liquid emulsion prints. The pictures you are seeing are a product of under(over)developing, under(over)exposing, maltreating, light and erosion caused by time passing.
The wonderful thing is that they`ll continue to change after the time they were taken:)
I decided to name this project : ALCHEMY OF DESERTION.
Prononciation of alchemy of desertion would normally awaken gloomy feelings...
But I think it`s amazing to see how things continuously morph into something new.
It`s like a synonym of  infinity  and everything/everyone ,  can/should discover this on their selves ...

Medusal mood

Medusal mood

digital mixed media  by     (c) eni turkeshi imagery
whole project here

The story of Medusa and different legends and associations about her have always intrigued me. I had first seen her sculpture in Istanbul, at Yerebatan Cistern. The images in my series consist of self portraits mixed in Photoshop with Turkish coffee patterns images. I had several reasons to use those patterns. Firstly because visually it connotates Medusa`s hair. Secondly,as many of us know the Turkish coffee patterns are famous in fortune telling. If we look back at the story of Medusa, she used to be a pretty girl with wonderful hair. After being cursed by the goddess Athena, her fortune totally changed and her hair turned into terrible snakes , while her face became incredibly ugly so each person that would stare at her would get stoned. So I symbolized the coffee patterns with the ways of destiny. At the same time Medusa is also known as a symbol of nihilism and negotiation of many meaningful aspects of life. The whole final imagery connotates not a very optimistic determinism on facts we can`t change however we try to escape from them and the final way we choose to live with it.

A m a r a n th i n e

 A m a r a n th i n e
 (c) Eni Turkeshi Photography

I was inspired from my anthotype experiments to  invent this one:) I was amazed of the great colorful juices profited from the plants, fruits and veggies. So i decided to use them for handcoloring of some of my  altprocess prints.
I was inspired by the result and will try more in the future.
Meanwhile i`ll let you with the passionate world of colors :)

Anatomy of missing II

 anatomy of missing II

If i squint i see you
when i don`t my eyes reflect your image
When inhaling i smell your aura
sometimes i don`t breathe so I can store
your scent inside me for longer
My lips keep on searching this warm , volatile texture of your lips
But it`s always tear molecules that
they abruptly are crashed into...
My limbs...
My cold cold limbs feel like numbed
after long time embracing emptiness
My mind...
that is the cheeriest one amongst them
It`s the holder of the memories
so it can still float on happy moods
and after all i think that
heaven is only left in my mind...

The story of an aspirant

A waiting woman
Prolonged expectations
Delayed wishes
Nurtured hopes
Infidelity cracks
Broken hearts plastered again and again with love stripes
Unslaked fire
Never ending longing
Resurrecting Phoenix
The story of a woman in love and what she can do for it , is always an unfinished story...

The verses above belong to my last semester`s final school project as an `art and handicrafts` student at Vraa Hojskole.
These verses associated with the pictures you see (all of them are cyanotype photos , printed in silk fabric.Only the very first photo is the digitally converted image of a negative cyanotype print on silk).
On the last picture you might see the final state of the project.
All the pics were put in between 2 pieces of glass cut in a raw way.Cooper strings and stripes were also added.
The Juda`s Money flower as well. (Lunaria annua latin name)

Photobucket

When i first started to work on this project; i thought of Penelope and her love story.
Many of us have experienced stories like this..
Stories of aspiration and waiting...Unfinished waiting...For love...
I wanted to reflect these stories of woman in love, of waiting women in a single piece where i would combine photography and other arts as well.

Photobucket

The 2 layers of glass with the pics, copper wires and ornaments and dried flowers within, were put over a light source.
My reason for doing this was because i wanted to show everything in a transparent way , just to get closer to the texture of the work and have a more realistic and genuine approach to the characters as well.

Photobucket

The copper strings, photos, Juda`s money flowers (used as symbol of infidelity), all of them were put in a random and asymmetrical way.

I decided to make the project look unfinished , just like the carpet Penelope used to hand-knit.

FOR THE STORY OF A WOMAN IN LOVE AND WHAT SHE CAN DO FOR IT IS ALWAYS AN UNFINISHED STORY...
