I was very saddened to hear the demolishing of the The Art House Tacheles (Kunsthaust Tacheles) , in Berlin. I had visited this place in the spring of 2011 and i can say with no doubt that it was the best place i saw in Berlin. I`m
not exaggerating if i say i was infatuated to every object or work of
art i saw in that place. The cool, limitless graffiti`s, the sculptures,
the paintings, jewellry, photos, studios of different artists, as well as
all the textures, colors ,slogans of every piece of glass and wall. Not
to forget the stairs, those crazy, mind whirling stairs! And the music,
the people , mostly the one of a kind life i saw in Tacheles! This project of mine is a tribute to this genuine place!
Historically
a very piquant place as well , built in a department store of a Jewish
quarter, it served as a Nazi prison during for a while and was
partially demolished then as well. After the Berlin wall fall, it was
taken over by artists, who called it `Tacheles` which in Yiddish means
`straight talking.`
Since 2008 the lease with property owner
expired and the future of the art centre became unknown.Since that time
some artists left , and the last 40-60 artists who had been striving to
let Kunsthaus Tacheles alive, left peacefully after pressure from the
owner for a 22 years period. [history info was taken from Wikipedia].
